Jocelyn Proctor

Psychotherapist & Eating Disorder Specialist, MCouns, NT Dip CNM, (Reg MBACP, MBICA)

With over two decades of dedicated experience, I have cultivated expertise as a specialist in the field of eating disorders. My professional journey began as an Educational Speaker, with a focus on awareness, prevention, and recovery from eating disorders. This initial passion led me to pursue qualifications as a Nutritional Therapist, specializing in mental health, disordered eating, and intuitive eating.

Furthering my dedication to holistic healing, I earned a Master’s degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy from The University of Edinburgh, training in Person-Centred and Psychodynamic approaches. There I delved into the integration of meditation within psychotherapeutic interventions for eating disorder recovery.

My fascination with meditative practices was ignited over two decades ago in Canada, where I immersed myself within the Life Process Transformation (LPT) program designed for individuals struggling with eating disorders. Through in-depth study and training, I became one of only a few practitioners versed in this transformative approach. LPT offers a gentle pathway to healing and personal development, guiding individuals toward a simpler, more authentic way of living. Even when not directly implementing the teachings of LPT, its philosophy serves as the foundation of my therapeutic approach, empowering individuals to move beyond outdated coping mechanisms and patterns and rediscover their true selves.

Central to my philosophy of eating disorder recovery is the belief that we must not engage in battle with the illness but rather nurture the self toward transformation and growth. Don’t battle the problem, nurture the self.
Currently, I also serve as a Specialist Fertility Counsellor at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh Fertility Centre. In this role, I provide support not only within the realm of fertility but also in Reproductive Endocrinology, receiving referrals for patients with eating disorders and associated endocrine issues.
Throughout my career, I have accumulated extensive experience working therapeutically with adults and adolescents in both NHS and private settings, providing integrative care, influenced by all my modalities trained in.
