NUTRITIONAL THERAPY

Nutritional therapy is an integral part of our holistic approach to supporting clients with eating disorders. It focuses on helping individuals rebuild a balanced relationship with food, nourish their bodies, and support their recovery.

Nutritional therapy recognises the critical connection between nutrition and mental health – what we eat and how we eat can deeply impact our mood, energy, and emotional resilience. For those struggling with eating disorders, these connections can be distorted, leading to further challenges in recovery. By addressing nutritional imbalances, we aim to support clients in overcoming issues such as anxiety, body image concerns, and disordered eating habits.

Our approach to nutritional therapy is personalised, treating the whole person, and it is tailored to meet the unique needs of each client.

What to Expect

Your journey begins with a comprehensive, 90-minute consultation with one of our experienced nutritionists. In this session, we will discuss your eating history, current challenges, and recovery goals. From here, we will create a personalised nutrition plan that aligns with your individual needs.

Because eating disorders often involve deep-rooted emotional factors, we take a compassionate, non-judgmental approach. Our nutritionists work alongside your therapy team to ensure that nutrition is integrated into your overall treatment plan in a supportive, balanced way. We also explore gentle ways to reintroduce food, while addressing the psychological aspects of eating and restoring normal eating patterns.

Follow-up sessions provide ongoing support to track progress, adjust your plan as needed, and discuss any challenges you may be experiencing. These sessions ensure you feel supported and understood every step of the way.

FAQs

How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies for each individual, depending on your health history, goals, and unique circumstances. For most clients, we recommend a minimum of 6 sessions to support gradual, sustainable progress. Session frequency may also evolve over time; you might begin with weekly appointments and transition to fortnightly or monthly check-ins as you build confidence and momentum.

Will I be given a strict meal plan?
Not at all. Our approach is flexible and tailored to your preferences, needs, and lifestyle. The goal is to create sustainable changes, not rigid rules. We focus on nourishing your body, not restricting it.

Can nutritional therapy be used alongside therapy or medication?
Yes. Nutritional therapy is often most effective when used in combination with other treatments. Our nutritionist work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team to ensure your care is well-rounded and integrated.

Do I need to take supplements?
Supplementation may be recommended in some cases to correct deficiencies or support specific health concerns, but it’s never a requirement.
