Michelle Scott
Psychotherapist & Eating Disorder Specialist MSc BSc RMHN (Reg MBACP) London & Edinburgh
I began my professional career in mental health 23 years ago, firstly as a mental health nurse and I then completed my training as a psychotherapist in 2006. I have also previously worked in the arts and media, all of which gave me a great foundation for my current practice. My work is psychodynamically based, which I find invaluable in understanding the potential underlying roots of any issues. From there I draw on other training and experience I have in EMDR, DBT, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, CBT, group work and a good dose of common sense to tailor an approach that is right for each individual client.
I have a specialism in eating disorders, which I developed working as a Specialist Nurse Therapist at the Ellern Mede Centre for Eating Disorders, The Maudsley Eating Disorder Service and The Royal Free Hospital Intensive Eating Service. Often concurrent to that specialist area are other issues such as depression, self-harm, anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, body image, abuse, school and social difficulties, family break ups and bereavement. I have worked extensively with adolescents and young people as well as adults and families. This has brought me an awareness of how complex and deeply affecting mental health difficulties can be and therefore how important it is to have a thoughtful, nurturing and reliable approach in their care.
I joined the team at TRC in 2012 and feel heartened every day to be part of our therapeutic milieu and to support the well-being of some amazing human beings.
