ADHD

At TRC, we take a holistic approach to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) care, offering specialised services in psychiatry, nutrition and ADHD coaching.

We work as a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychotherapists, coaches, and nutritionists to provide in-depth assessments and therapeutic support.

We go beyond diagnosis: offering compassionate support and practical strategies to help young people thrive at home, in school, and in themselves.

What is included in an ADHD Assessment:

1. Initial Psychiatric Assessment (90 mins).

Led by a Consultant Psychiatrist, this includes a clinical interview, behavioural observations, and standardised ADHD screening tools (for example Conners Comprehensive Behaviour Rating Scales and Quantified Behavioural Test). For under-18s, a parent/guardian should attend, where family history is discussed, alongside initial symptom assessment.

2. Developmental History Taking Appointment (60 mins).

A parent/guardian session to gather in-depth developmental, medical, and psychiatric history, review school/university performance and explore behavioural patterns. We may also liaise with schools or teachers, where appropriate.

3. Diagnostic Review and Feedback (60 mins).

This appointment brings together all the findings – from interviews, observations and questionnaires. If criteria are met, the Consultant Psychiatrist can confirm an ADHD diagnosis and begin exploring next steps for care.

What happens after a diagnosis of ADHD?

Medication Management

If appropriate, our psychiatrists may recommend medication to support focus, emotional regulation, and impulse control. Medication can be a helpful part of an overall treatment plan, but it is never a standalone solution.

When starting medication, we offer regular appointments to carefully monitor how the client is responding and to adjust the dosage as needed. This titration period is an essential part of ensuring the treatment is both safe and effective. Ongoing follow-up appointments are required in line with our psychiatrists’ recommendations.

ADHD Coaching

Our ADHD coaching supports children, adolescents and adults to better understand themselves and develop tools to thrive at school, at home, and in life.

Our model centres on:

Championing: We advocate unconditionally for our clients, recognising their strengths and supporting them to reach their full potential, even when the path feels challenging.

Collaboration: Coaching is a partnership. Together, we explore what works best for each individual, creating tailored strategies that reflect their unique needs, preferences, and goals.

Challenge: Growth happens when we stretch ourselves. We encourage clients to step outside their comfort zones with support and guidance, building resilience and confidence along the way.

Our Coaching May Include Support With:

• Goal setting and motivation
• Time management and prioritisation
• Planning and breaking down tasks
• Study skills and exam revision strategies
• Navigating school, university or work environments

Psychoeducation For Families:

Understanding ADHD is key to supporting a young person effectively. We offer psychoeducation sessions for parents/guardians to help make sense of their child’s profile and feel more confident in managing day-to-day challenges.

These Sessions Include:

• An overview of what ADHD is and how it presents in different children
• Guidance on how to respond to difficult behaviours and support emotional regulation
• Practical strategies for home routines, transitions, sleep, and school challenges
• Information on evidence-based interventions such as behavioural therapy, parent training, medication, and coaching
• Support in navigating education systems, accessing reasonable adjustments, and long-term planning

Nutrition:

Exploring how diet and lifestyle can impact attention, sleep and energy – focus on ADHD-related nutritional needs.

UNDERSTANDING ADHD

ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) can affect attention, impulse control, and emotional regulation and it often impacts day-to-day life in ways that can feel frustrating, confusing, or overwhelming. We tailor our approach to each person’s unique profile, where individuals with ADHD can learn to harness their strengths, develop practical strategies, and thrive.

In children:

• Restlessness or excessive energy
• Difficulty staying focused or following instructions
• Forgetfulness – leaving items behind, forgetting instructions or routines
• Trouble with listening, even when spoken to directly
• Strong emotional reactions (frustration, anger, excitement)

In Teenagers:

• Struggles with organisation (forgetting homework, missing deadlines)
• Poor time management or last-minute cramming
• Emotional ups and downs, often feeling overwhelmed
• Impulsivity in conversations or relationships
• Procrastination and difficulty getting started

In Adults:

• Forgetfulness (keys, appointments)
• Difficulty prioritising or finishing tasks
• Struggles with motivation and follow-through
• Trouble regulating emotions (frustration, impatience, anxiety)
• Impulsive decisions (spending, speaking, eating)
