ADHD
At TRC, we take a holistic approach to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) care, offering specialised services in psychiatry, nutrition and ADHD coaching.
We work as a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychotherapists, coaches, and nutritionists to provide in-depth assessments and therapeutic support.
We go beyond diagnosis: offering compassionate support and practical strategies to help young people thrive at home, in school, and in themselves.
What is included in an ADHD Assessment:
1. Initial Psychiatric Assessment (90 mins).
Led by a Consultant Psychiatrist, this includes a clinical interview, behavioural observations, and standardised ADHD screening tools (for example Conners Comprehensive Behaviour Rating Scales and Quantified Behavioural Test). For under-18s, a parent/guardian should attend, where family history is discussed, alongside initial symptom assessment.
2. Developmental History Taking Appointment (60 mins).
A parent/guardian session to gather in-depth developmental, medical, and psychiatric history, review school/university performance and explore behavioural patterns. We may also liaise with schools or teachers, where appropriate.
3. Diagnostic Review and Feedback (60 mins).
This appointment brings together all the findings – from interviews, observations and questionnaires. If criteria are met, the Consultant Psychiatrist can confirm an ADHD diagnosis and begin exploring next steps for care.
What happens after a diagnosis of ADHD?
Medication Management
If appropriate, our psychiatrists may recommend medication to support focus, emotional regulation, and impulse control. Medication can be a helpful part of an overall treatment plan, but it is never a standalone solution.
When starting medication, we offer regular appointments to carefully monitor how the client is responding and to adjust the dosage as needed. This titration period is an essential part of ensuring the treatment is both safe and effective. Ongoing follow-up appointments are required in line with our psychiatrists’ recommendations.
